One way or another, everything I do is design. I go into new domains, put myself into learning mode, listen, ask dumb questions, listen, make naive proposals, pay attention to the answers - their mode as well as their content. I analyse, make crude models, test them. I put myself where I feel out of my depth in systems that I believe are important.Out of all this comes better understanding of the domain as a dynamic system, on the basis of which we can frame interventions that have systemic impact for the better.I try to seek out / choose domains where such impact is the most needed / positive in terms of the most pressing needs of humanity - impending systems crunches in climate, economics, ecosystems, politics.A key learning/insight is that our system of state-enforced, monopoly issue, debt-based currency conditions almost everything about our thinking. That the artificial scarcity of money which comes hand-in-hand with this system is hindering development in the very sectors of society and the economy which represent hope for humanity - around collaboration, knowledge production, co-operation, sharing and caring.
