The UQ - Rio Tinto Bauxite and Alumina Technology Centre was established to deliver fundamental and applied research preparing for future challenges in the worldwide alumina industry.Managed research project focused on enabling the recovery of caustic reagent, constituting 25 % of OPEX costs per annum, currently lost to waste during alumina production. Trained and mentored five undergraduate students in project research activities. Documented and presented research outcomes to a broad audience throughout project ensuring a high level of stakeholder engagement. Enabled the rapid analysis of leach circuit operating parameters by establishing a laboratory testing facility at Rössing Uranium Limited in Swakopmund, Namibia. Facilitated upgrade of the Rössing metallurgical accounting system by conducting a metallurgical audit and identifying deficiencies within existing system. Enabled increase in uranium extraction in plant by testing operating parameters, with the extraction improvement outweighing additional oxidant consumption cost at Energy Resources of Australia in Jabiru, NT, Australia.
