I joined Canada’s leading residential mortgage financing team in 2012. I started in the tax department, moved into fulfillment and then became an underwriter. I was promoted to Manager in 2020 and then Director in 2024.First National Financial is Canada's largest non-bank lender, originating, underwriting and servicing both residential and commercial mortgages. As the leading lender of CMHC and conventional mortgages, First National currently has more than $100 billion in mortgages under administration.When I started at First National 10 years ago in the tax department, the mortgage industry was new to me. The new depth of knowledge – mortgages, broker channel, technology systems – was really rewarding. The ongoing learning has kept me very engaged. I now have a team of 12 and I enjoy being able to collaborate with such a talented group every day. Surviving in this industry comes down to work ethic. It is important to be willing to learn and adapt, as the industry changes all of the time. Being a leader at First National is a unique experience. We definitely have a continuous improvement culture where we help people work towards their goals supportively. That was definitely my experience. There is a genuine desire to see people grow and succeed. As a Team lead, I have a lot of autonomy.
