I describe myself as a minority, but not just in the way you might think when looking at my profile picture. What I actually mean is: I am a non-heritage, non-native speaker of Mandarin Chinese, and I am rated at a 3+ "Professional Plus" proficiency in Speaking, Reading, and Listening modalities. A relatively small number of people share that same biographical information, so I take pride in my language abilities.That pride comes from the amount of time, planning, effort and initiative it required to reach my proficiency within a very diverse set of professional and casual topics/scenarios. However, as a person who did not start learning Mandarin until college, my studying never stops, and I have to continue to utilize the language in a way that improves/maintains my skills but also has purpose.As an OPI at TransPerfect, I have utilized and improved my Mandarin Chinese as an Over the Phone Consecutive Interpreter in many fields, including: legal, medical, banking, art, automotive, insurance, and education fields. I enjoy my time as an Interpreter, because I have the opportunity to help those who would otherwise have no way of communicating with service representatives, bankers, program organizers, lawyers, and people of many other crucial occupations.I seek out those opportunities that allow me to continue utilizing Mandarin while serving my community.
