Estimator
CurrentI worked as a technician for 6 out of the now 7 years at Crash. I had some medical issues so I ended up switching to the front office as an Estimator. There is an incredible wild feeling of responsibility taking care of people’s cars, up to 50, or even more, at a time! We call it “Keys to keys” meaning I write the initial estimate for repairs, take the keys, order initial parts, assign it to the right technician for the job. Once the vehicle is dis assembled and supplemental damage/other damaged parts are accounted for and ordered, the estimate is sent up for approval. Once the insurance company approves, the vehicle is repaired and primed. Once the vehicle is prepped for paint, it gets sprayed and goes back to the technician to be re-assembled. Once it’s back to pre accident collision, it gets detailed, final paperwork and Quality checked, the customer comes back and gets their keys! Meanwhile through the whole process, the customers are updated constantly, insurance companies call, and you also have your daily appointments for new customers. I like to run about 50-60 cars at a time. Customer service is KEY, you learn to be extremely organized, and time management is the core to being successful. You constantly have a million things to do at once. I have worked with a guy and said “I have ADHD and this job is my adderal”When I was a technician, I always thought estimators were just keyboard clickers. I appreciate estimators on a different level now, and I love learning every aspect of this industry!
