Seasonal position on a USFS handcrew during each summer between college years. Starting in Prairie City OR for 2005 and 2006 fire seasons then transferring to Detroit OR for the 2007 and 2008 fire seasons.While in Prairie City I was lead Pulaski on the handcrew for both years and received my squad boss (FFT1) in 2006 then beginning my ICT5. In the 2007 fire season in Detroit I received my certification as an Incident Commander Type 5 and was a two year member on the saw crew. While working on the Detroit handcrew I was also in charge of all programming for the physical training programming to prepare and maintain all firefighter fitness of the 20 person crew. The position required exceptional physical fitness, long working hours in stressful situations, outstanding communication between crew and supervisors, trouble shooting of pumps and chainsaws, crew cohesion, extended work hours with aviation, and the ability to work seamlessly with multiple crew members and crews to implement fire prevention and fire suppression tactics.
