Profile bio

About Dillon Eyer

Since my junior year of high school, I've always excelled in leadership roles. This began with my position as the Lead of Robot Programming on one of my school's robotics competition teams where I gained experience working in and managing project teams, wiring design, robot kinematics, and program architecture (simple C programming language). I applied this experience when I became the Team Lead of Boise State's Microgravity Research Team, a volunteer student research group vertically integrated with a NASA design competition. I motivated students to share their design ideas to be incorporated into a formal proposal sent to NASA personnel for judging, delegated tasks within the proposal process, and acted as the point of contact between our research group and NASA personnel. While our proposal was not accepted in Fall 2019, our proposal in 2020 was a smashing success. Our time during spring of 2020 was spent developing stronger technical skills and learning from the feedback we received as a team to enable our success in fall of 2020. We also took our proposal to the Boise State Undergraduate Research Showcase where I gained valuable experience presenting research to my peers. It was around this time I joined NASA's Pathways Program at Marshall Space Flight Center, but was met with the setbacks COVID had brought upon the world. I was determined to excel and provide as much as I could for my mentor, Dr Louise Strutzenberg (a NASA and Mission Scientist veteran). I took ownership of the project she assigned to me in performing further data analysis on an experiment from 2001 studying eutectic phase transition and the effect of zero-gravity on gas bubbles. I became an expert on the material and provided valuable feedback from the results that led to improvements in re-flight experiments of NASA's PFMI and SUBSA projects.I was challenged with long work hours at Best Buy as a sales associate and in Helpdesk IT Support and lofty course loads during my time in community college (Summer 2016 - Spring 2019) pursing a degree in Computer Science. I overcame this challenge by learning to manage my time better, prioritize tasks in my schedule, and understand the methods that best help me to focus and sustain productive work. As a result, I can avoid work "burnout" by shifting my mentality about work being completed. I also built important self confidence and customer service skills that have shaped how I engage in teams. While this isn't a complete summary of my experience, more can be found through my Linkedin profile! I'm very excited for you to know me! :)
