I am currently the Assistant Director for Employer Relations & Diversity at the Stony Brook University Career Center, and first met Kimberly when she was an undergraduate student utilizing one of the services at the Career Center. From our first interaction, Kimberly displayed confidence, enthusiasm, and a desire to succeed. She later applied and interviewed for a Human Resources internship within the Career Center. During her interview, my initial perception of Kimberly was confirmed, and instead of hiring her for the Human Resources internship, she was hired for the Employer Relations Assistant. This was a higher level position with increased responsibilities usually offered to graduate students only. As her direct supervisor, I watched Kimberly grow professionally in her role as Employer Relations Assistant. Her career goals were very clear from the beginning; she was interested in gaining Human Resources experience and would go above and beyond the call of duty to obtain the knowledge. She worked extra hours, took initiative to better prepare students for the world of work by conducting one on one mock interviews and group presentations for students. She was very instrumental in researching various industries to solicit new employers to recruit at Stony Brook, and interacted with employers on a regular basis to ensure that their recruiting needs were met. Kimberly was and still is very impressive! She set the bar for every Employer Relations Assistant that has come after her. During my employee trainings, I refer to her as the example to match or beat! Kimberly’s goal of working in the Human Resources field led her to her first post-graduation job as Executive Team Leader at Target. Within a short period of time, she moved in to an Human Resources role with the company. Over the last five years, I have worked with Kimberly as an employer recruiting students. She continues to illustrate her desire to be the best Human Resources professional she can be by striving for excellence as she helps Target find the best students. She has also been actively involved with mentoring Stony Brook students through our Diversity Professional Leadership Network program. Her willingness to mentor and offer ongoing advice to students in the program exhibits the leadership, training and development skills she has obtained in her Target Human Resources role.
