Why do we treat our mental health differently to the way we treat our physical health? Aimed at the general population EQ, The Equality Magazine will provide a forum for discussion and debate on the 9 Grounds of Equality. These are: Gender, Marital Status, Family Status, Age, Race, Religion, Disability, Sexual Orientation and Membership of the Traveller community. Ireland has one of the most progressive Equality Legislations in the world, which we ought to celebrate and indeed be proud of. However, the current recessionary climate has highlighted increased discrimination and social exclusion, which calls for greater awareness of equality issues in our society. EQ, The Equality Magazine will act as a conduit between activists, politicians, academics, voluntary agencies, government bodies and the greater public. Our publication will bring our readers to the core of the debate and act as a source of information for service users and providers alike. It is our goal to facilitate discussion in an accessible manner to stimulate individual involvement in a collective effort to create an equal and inclusive society, where all members can reach their full potential. The EQ team consists of Deputy Editor Derek Byrne, Creative Director Paul O’Connor and a boundless bank of contributors as we intend to represent all views pertaining to equality, diversity and inclusion.
