My project was with a UK-based renewable energy company that produces smart household devices which optimise the use of green energy. The company was new to Data Science and our aim was to process their raw data files, identify the current problems and the future potential of the data, explore their customers’ energy usage behaviour, identify points of inefficiency and ways to optimise that, and gain value and actionable insights based on which the company can improve their service to their customers. My work was related to Gravity and Theoretical Cosmology. My first major project was to generalise the theoretical relation between the luminosity distance and the redshift to inhomogeneous universes. My second major project was to test and constrain a model of dark matter as a Bose-Einstein condensate by using the difference between the arrival times of gravitational-wave and gamma-ray-burst signals emitted during a binary-neutron-star collision. My third major project was on testing the large-scale isotropy of the universe by using both present data from Supernovae Type Ia and forecasts for future data. I have also done some work on parameter estimation in Cosmology, the gravitational-wave luminosity distance in modified theories of gravity and non-minimally coupled dark-matter models. Show less
