> Research and development- Acted as the main investigator and developer for the project OPSnet demonstrating the first asynchronous optical packet switched node functions at a bit rate of 40Gb/s with real time header detection and processing. - Worked closely with BT, initially in project OPSnet and later in the study and development of the first national research optical network infrastructure among the universities of Essex, Cambridge and UCL - Established new collaborations with CIP (now part of Huawei) and major UK research institutes (Cambridge University, UCL, Imperial and St Andrews University), leading to new project initiatives.- Was responsible for the upgrade of the Photonics Network Research laboratory infrastructure, being in close contact with advanced test equipment providers and performing the testing and evaluation of the equipment.> Training and teaching - Trained 4 new PhD candidates on topics related with optical system set-up, signal processing and experimental system performance validation- Assisted in two Master level courses providing 3 lectures per course on optical signal generation and transmission, WDM systems and optical switching solutions including a lab demonstration lecture.
