As part of my conscription, I was trained as an army engineer, specializing in minefield warfare and demolition techniques. Following the basic 10-week engineer training, I was selected for the 4-week “Sergeant school” which I completed second in my class, out of 45 participants. The rest of my time was spent leading a 12 men squadron and taking part in multiple week-long training exercises. This installed in me a “can-do” mentality and taught me to be self-sufficient and know when to lead and when to follow and support. As a 3G mobile telecommunications specialist I was part of an international team providing network implementation, end-to-end system acceptance testing and 3rd-line support of Nokia RAN products with major mobile service providers in the UK.With frequent relocations to different facilities across the UK and Ireland, often within a short notice, constant and effective communication with the head office and my colleagues was absolutely necessary.Part of a 5-month, “night upgrade” project for 3UK (held daily from 19:00 to 4:00), which was remotely taking off-line, upgrading and reactivating parts of the cellular network all across the UK, with some nights finishing as late as 7:00 when things did not go to plan.- During my time in Nokia, I was trained in the leading mobile telecom platforms of the time and was quickly integrated in an international team. I had to work closely with others, under tight timelines and trouble shoot on the spot in order to roll-out new parts, maintain and keep the mobile network operational.- Learned to be an effective team player, be flexible to changes in work conditions, locations and working hours. Had to plan ahead, organize my equipment and be self-sufficient as most of the time we were operating out of different, remote locations.- Handled stress, time pressure and be attentive to detail as small mistakes could lead to whole cities being left without a mobile network and millions of Euros being lost.
