About Kahdeidra Monét Martin, Ph.D.
I received my Ph.D. in Urban Education specializing in transdisciplinary language studies—integrating the fields of sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, and literacy studies. I investigate the dynamic, fluid, racialized, gendered, and classed identities of youth and how they use linguistic and other cultural resources to negotiate meaning and power in schools. I am particularly interested in transnational and heterogenous Black identities in the United States, culturally sustaining and inclusive pedagogy, and practitioners of African diasporic religions in schools. For my dissertation, I conducted a relational narrative case study of Black high school students and graduates of NYC independent schools, of which I am an alumna. It won the 2022 Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Qualitative Research SIG of the American Educational Research Association. See my online CV at www.kahdeidramartin.com for more information about my research, teaching, publications, and professional service!
