I am an experienced legal professional who owns a budding comfort-wear brand. Too many people end up devoting much of their lives to careers and paths that they were not instinctively drawn to. In many cases, we cannot figure out which way to go, and therefore work in areas that meet societal expectations such as remuneration, security, socioeconomic fulfilment, even familial expectations. Why am I harping on about this phenomenon of 'given' vocations? Thankfully, and despite being born into a family and into a community that is traditionally in the business of 'business'; I have been blessed. Blessed because my parents allowed me the freedom of independent thought, exploration, and ultimately, choice. Two discoveries I had made since my early childhood had now been amply confirmed. That I loved creating something new, and I was a team person who loved to manage people and tasks. The path ahead was crystal clear to me. I had two things to do. First, study further, and immerse the fundamentals of law as understanding the legal complexities in business is vital to success and gain work experience working as a lawyer at prestigious firms. This gave me exposure to working in a professional environment first an intern and then after completing my law studies I started looking for work in all earnest. It was a hard time, both professionally as well as personally as India too was reeling under the global recession and jobs were scarce and I too was diagnosed with a tumour in my pituitary gland which also led to acute depression. But i persevered and ensured that I secured the kind of position that would lead me to achieve my goals. In addition to learning about the legal domain, I excelled at client and team management.Then came COVID-19 and I turned this downtime into an opportunity. That is how my start-up Aeres was born. It was a time of constant introspection and questioning about my larger life path and goals and that is how my love for clothes, comfort and classics, turned into a comfort-wear brand and I also transitioned from litigation to corporate law.
