My experience as a laboratory assistant gave me a deep understanding and insight into the hierarchy and infrastructure of academia and enabled me to develop a strong network of academic relationships. I gained hands on experience with scientific equipment and learnt about the different techniques used to investigate biological processes and entities. My role also extended to training new lab members on the use of specific equipment as well as laboratory etiquette. Outside of my work-related responsibilities, I helped organise departmental events, which involved marketing, venue organisation, catering and setting up the scene.

My role as a Client Service Advisor involved face-to-face liaison with clients: sales and marketing of products/services, managing bookings and correspondence. I was organising swimming schools for children involving promotion and sales of the service. As I became more senior, it was my job to train new crew members. The toughest part of my role was to deal with debt collection, which required me to be empathetic and patient but firm enough not to compromise on company policies.The company started my managerial training, but unfortunately it discontinued due to staff shortages.
