InternVssc - Indian Space Research Organization Jun 2023 - Jul 2023Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, IndiaDuring my internship at VSSC, I was assigned to the Quality Division Mechanical Systems (QDMS) in the Veli Research Centre (VRC). QDMS is a part of the Quality Assurance and Reliability Mechanical Integration Group (QRMIG), which falls under the Systems Reliability (SR) entity. I had the opportunity to explore various facilities, labs, and areas within the entity. Notable visits were made to the Vibrations Testing Lab, QDVF (Quality Divisions Vehicle Systems Environment Test Facility) lab, and QDTC lab (Quality Divisions Test and Evaluation of Control Systems). These visits provided valuable insights into the components and environmental tests involved in the quality assurance and certification of launch vehicles.Later in my internship, I had the opportunity to visit the rocket launching facility at Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS). Witnessing a live Sounding rocket launch was an exhilarating experience, and it deepened my appreciation for the work carried out by VSSC. The System Reliability (SR) entity, focuses on ensuring quality and reliability in launch vehicles, sounding rockets, space recovery experiments, reusable launch vehicles, and satellite elements. Within the mechanical area, the Quality Assurance (QA) functions encompass structures such as pressure vessels, stiffened structures, adhesive bonded structures, metallic materials, and fasteners. Additionally, QA covers control systems, stage separation, pyro systems, and assessment of acoustic, vibration, and structural testing. Reliability assessment is another crucial aspect.Overall, my internship at VSSC provided me with valuable hands-on experience, exposure to cutting-edge facilities, and a deeper understanding of quality assurance and reliability in the field of space technology. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such groundbreaking work and to learn from experienced professionals in the industry. -
