I teach and do research on global governance, global global environmental politics, and international political theory for over two decades. Most colleagues and students know me for my "Global Governance as a Perspective on World Politics" (co-authored with Ph. Pattberg), which has become a core reading in many introductory courses on global governance, as well as for my research on the private transnational governance of large dams, forest certification, and sustainability reporting. My books include "The New Transnationalism" (Palgrave Macmillan 2007), "Die Organisierte Welt" (Nomos, 2009, co-edited), "Postnationale Demokratie" (VS Verlag 2011, co-authored), "The Language of World Trade Politics: Unpacking the Terms of Trade" (2019, co-edited), "International Organizations under Pressure" (OUP 2019, co-authored), and "The Unmaking of Special Rights" (Edward Elgar 2024, co-authored). I am currently working on an introduction to climate justice.At Uni St.Gallen, I currently act as the academic director for our Major in International Affairs (https://bia.unisg.ch). My teaching includes core courses on case study methods (at undergrad level) and on the philosophy of the social sciences (at PhD level), as well as (occasional) electives on ethics and international affairs, international organizations, global environmental politics / climate politics, and civil disobedience.I am member of the German Political Science Associations (International Relations Section), the Swiss Political Science Association (International Political Sociology Section), and the International Studies Association (Environmental Studies Section, International Organizations Section, and International Ethics Section), for which I currently also serve on the committee for the Harold and Margaret Sprout Award for best book in Environmental Studies.
