About Carl Albrecht-Buehler

A functional programming afficiando with nearly 20 years of web tech experience, and a track record of successful projects for both large enterprises and nimble start-ups, I favor UI development, but have always worked server-side, as well. I target reliability and maintainability in the systems I work on, and will look for and deploy as many means as I'm able to achieve it.The soft skills I’ve cultivated in that time have been invaluable. Understanding the needs of both the users of and the organizations that host those systems, their perspectives, capabilities, needs, principles, and priorities are essential to working cross-team when solving issues and collaborating on tasks.Come talk to me about JavaScript, its many frameworks (especially React and Svelte), lambda calculus, ClojureScript, or git, or if you're feeling less technical, the Simpsons, 3D modeling, drawing, and dinosaurs. I enjoy them all.

  • Sittercity
    Developer
    Sittercity Jul 2004 - Jun 2007
    Chicago, Illinois, Us
As a developer at Sittercity, I wound up wearing many hats. Mostly, I worked on self-contained projects, like redesigning its profile pages, but there were three major redesign efforts that I worked on while I was there.I was brought on board to aid with the first redeisgn which launched in the fall of 2004. The second went live in early 2006 and while I contributed at many levels to this project, my main responsibility was the frontend design. The most recent redesign was launched May 2007, and my main goal with it was to make its HTML as standards compliant as possible while still having an easy-to-manage style and layout. At Sittercity, I was given a tremendous amount of opportunity to develop my web design skills, from working with complex UIs to learning the ropes of Object Oriented web programming. My knowledge of and expertise in php has grown tremedously, though it is learning the OOP design philosophy and its practical implementation that I value most from working here.
