The foundation of Dion's research and career aspirations focuses on bringing light to the experiences of marginalized communities navigating higher education and contributing to the work to make learning environments more equitable, inclusive, and enriching for these communities. Much of Dion’s research focuses on advocating for and amplifying the experiences and well-being of marginalized communities in education, with a specific focus on Black queer and trans students and educators, marginalized communities in STEM, and adult learners at community colleges. In addition to his research interests, Dion is deeply passionate about the usage of research, assessment, and evaluation in higher education to improve the experiences of students, faculty, and staff. Dion also has past work experience in admissions, college access, first-year experience and college transitions, academic advising, residential learning, and a wealth of experience conducting research and assessment projects.

As part of this work, I interview community college presidents, faculty, and staff members about their experience with the North Carolina Reconnect Program and supporting adult learners at their institutions. As a member of the PACE Climate Survey Research Team, I've assisted in the administration of the PACE Climate Survey for Community Colleges, which allows community college leaders to better understand their institution’s culture and overall capacity to promote student success by hearing directly from employees about how they perceive and experience their work. In particular, I collaborated with institutional clients to lead all components of survey administration for six community colleges across the country (e.g., survey design, recruitment, administration, analysis, and report creation). -
