Dionicio (Don) Flores is a community outreach consultant and media specialist, who formed Flores Media Consulting in 2009.Flores Media Consulting, an El Paso company, specializes in developing strategic communications plans for educating and building consensus among stakeholders on a variety of projects. The company provides weekly, monthly, or as needed specialized briefings to update elected leaders, civic groups, neighborhoods and agencies on projects or other issues. It has more than ten years of experience in providing outreach and communications for city, county and Texas Department of Transportation projects. The principal, Dionicio (Don) Flores, has more than 27 years of media related experience in El Paso and more than 40 years in Texas.Flores is a longtime journalist and newspaper executive, having served as vice president and editor of the El Paso Times until his retirement August 2008. He was president and publisher of the Iowa City Press-Citizen in Iowa City, Iowa, before going to El Paso in 1993. Joining the Gannett Company in March 1985, he held editing and management positions at the Tucson Citizen in Tucson, Arizona; The New Mexican in Santa Fe, New Mexico; the Visalia Times-Delta in Visalia, California; and Gannett West in Reno, Nevada, before his promotions and transfers to Iowa City and later El Paso. Flores, a tenth-generation Texan, was born in Goliad, Texas, but was raised and attended school in Refugio, Texas, graduating in 1969. He was named a RHS distinguished alumnus in 2013. Flores is a 1973 graduate of Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in San Marcos. In 1994, Flores received that school's distinguished alumnus award, and in 2004 was selected to the university's School of Journalism and Mass Communications Hall of Fame. Texas State awarded him an honorary doctoral degree in 2015. He has served on the Texas State University Board of Regents from 1999 to 2008 and from 2019 to the present.Flores was inducted into the Philosophical Society in Texas in 2003.
