Practicode, an online internship, is a rapid experience generation tool designed to teach and test medical coding proficiency using real, redacted medical records concentrated on the top ten hiring medical specialties. This web-based training program allows new medical coders to get real work experience and increase their value to potential employers. The program is comprised of three modules, each containing 200 real medical records. Medical records include actual charts and medical documentation redacted for HIPAA compliance. Students must accurately code diagnoses and procedures in accordance with coding guidelines and analyze provider documentation to assign appropriate evaluation and management levels. Students must complete and pass an assessment at the end of each module. Successfully completing the program fulfills one year of medical coding experience required for the removal of the credential’s apprentice designation.

Answer phones, screen calls and relay messages to physician and physician's assistant. Schedule and confirm appointments. Check in patients and verify insurance. Assemble all data, documents and records required for patient appointments. Enter a variety of fiscally related information into databases. Call and inform patients of sleep study results. Fill in for medical assistant when needed taking patient vital signs, height, weight and medication reconciliation. Utilize a variety of office software. Maintain confidentiality of patients' personal and financial information.

Provide customer service on behalf of the Risk Management team. Perform administrative functions such as obtaining signatures, document scanning, distribution, and filing. Answer phones and receive visitors. Print daily risk management incident reports and disperse to risk managers. Distribute monthly worker's compensation checks to recipients. Receive and type hospital birth announcements and send to local newspaper. Distribute mail. Other duties as assigned. Utilize a variety of office software. Maintain client confidentiality.
