"Northeastern University’s Bouvé College of Health Sciences has been training physician assistants since 1971, making us one of the most experienced programs in the nation. Since its founding, Northeastern’s PA Program has been accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and its predecessors. The program last received full re-accreditation in 2015; the approximate date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be March 2025. The current accreditation remains in effect until the program closes or withdraws from the accreditation process or until accreditation is withdrawn for failure to comply with the Standards. The program continually conducts self-review to ensure compliance with all ARC-PA guidelines and standards. The 2016 US News and World Report Graduate Rankings list Northeastern University’s Physician Assistant Program as #20 in the nation."

Our Physician Assistant (PA) program holds a much sought after status among PA programs, not only in Massachusetts but across the United States. As part of our mission to be leaders in curricular innovation and interprofessional education, we incorporate technology and media into our already rigorous curriculum. The Arnold S. Goldstein Interprofessional Simulation Lab has been the cornerstone of this mission. The development and integration of simulation into our curriculum has allowed us to elevate the level of discourse and drastically improve experiential education for our students-from procedures to interprofessional education. I can say with confidence that no other PA program in the state utilizes a simulation lab as much and as well as we do. And we have plans to do more! Our students and preceptors comment on how much their simulation experience has helped them learn, have confidence in the clinical environment, and above all provide quality care. From a faculty perspective, having access to a simulation lab is an invaluable resource-one that no healthcare education program should be without.

I teach a variety of courses within the Northeastern University PA curriculum. History Taking and Physical Diagnosis, Infectious Disease, and Medical Therapeutics just to name a few. Aligning the curriculum both horizontally and vertically, I work to strengthen the curriculum and engage students through the use of various techniques, including case-based discussions, flipped classroom, debates, simulation, and hands-on learning.
