I’m a tuberculosis scientist with 15+ years’ experience in assay development, compound screening and MOA studies, in vitro/in vivo models and coordinating drug discovery programs. I believe the key to drive the discovery of innovative solutions for the eradication of TB lies with private-public partnerships and partnering with scientists from TB endemic areas. Before joining Janssen, I completed a five-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI), in Durban, South Africa. I was involved with several projects centred on M. tuberculosis redox homeostasis and bioenergetics, the role it plays in latency and persistence of the mycobacterium inside the human host, and how what we learn can be translated into clinical uses. My PhD was focused on a pathway of M. tuberculosis enzymes and the essential molecule they produce. I obtained extensive experience in cloning, expression, purification and characterization of M. tuberculosis proteins; as well as small molecule synthesis to either serve as enzyme substrates or inhibitors.
