CEO and Chairman of the Board of DirectorsIn Kolprem, Poland, we brought science into organizing and managing transport. Science came in by means of Process Mapping. We booked volume records. We invested. We won 3 UTK awards in a row for safety culture. By acquiring a Czech license, we became an international company. Our first international train drove to ArcelorMittal Frydek-Mistek, my previous team. Waw.Energising the company culture, we installed 6 Core Values. We worked in the spirit of “respect”, “initiative”, “commitment”, “teamwork”, “connect” and "honesty" with all involved stakeholders. It brought more volumes to us, which we realised at peak performance with solid financial results. My Polish team challenged me in learning that terrible difficult Polish language. The language barrier helped me / trained me / guided me to only focus on the headlines and the helicopter view over the company. The success of our logistics is not casted in formulas … although the fact that “the engineer in us” likes to have this. The success of our logistics … is being a psychologist to manage all involved stakeholders.These are some of the many positive take-aways of my working experience in mid-Europe. You gave me life experience luggage to move on with my professional career.In July, we booked a new mile stone by driving to the Polish ports. A new gate for Kolprem’s future market potential opens. Life gave me precious gifts bringing me strength of character, self-knowledge, courage, greater understanding and deeper compassion. How? By leveraging setbacks and seeing the tiny miracles brought to me to grow during the roughest times in my life. 1/01/2012 was the first day of my ‘new life’. The day I stopped playing small in my comfort zone standing up to explore the world. Daily continuous small and smart improvement steps in business and in personal life are stacking up. Taking little steps consistently in the direction of my goals nurtures evolution elevating the way I work, the way I lead and the way I live. I summarise so far my Czech Republic years as the best of my life. And as those I work with know, I am always explaining continuous improvement as a never ending story …My gratitude to my team: they make it happen. My gratitude to my management for the support and the confidence they give. That’s how I left the Czech Republic, moving into Poland.

I graduated at the Gent State University (Belgium) as Civil Engineer in Mechanics in 1987. After two years research at the University on numerical models for fluid dynamics, I joined the former Sidmar (Arbed Group) in 1989. I started as support manager, operations research, in the IT department to develop technical models for hot rolling, pickling, cold rolling and mill pacing optimisation. In 1994 I went to the hot strip mill department. I started as manager of refractory maintenance and production of the hot strip mill furnaces. From 2000 up to 2006 I was manager of the slab yard.
