CIRIA is the construction industry research and information association. It is an independent, not-for-profit, member-based research organisation that exists to champion performance improvement in construction. Since 1960 CIRIA has delivered support and guidance to the construction, built environment and infrastructure sectors. CIRIA works with members from all parts of the supply chain to co-ordinate collaborative projects, industry networks and events. As its first Chief Executive I established a brand new trade association for the timber supply chain - from sawmilling to construction - over the last twelve months. Successfully implemented a membership and stakeholder engagement strategy and developed the organisation from start-up to sustainable business. This has led to far greater unity among trade associations and businesses within the timber supply chain and greater cooperative working practice. I also created a new All Party Parliamentary Group for Timber Industries with the support of 45 parliamentarians.

As Chief Executive Officer I managed six staff and PR agencies. Promoted the interests of large and small operators within a highly scrutinised, fast paced and challenging regulatory environment. Focal point for key stakeholders in governments, parliaments and the media.

Board Director responsible for promoting marketing freedoms and effective delivery of media and public affairs campaigns. Engaged with key government departments. Media spokesperson. Reported to and deputised for Chief Executive.

Enterprise Insight ran a not-for-profit national campaign to encourage entrepreneurship. Recruited as Board Director to increase impact of the campaign. Designed and delivered 3- year business plan; as a result the campaign grew from 6 to 70 staff and £2 million budget to £6 million and exceeded challenging KPIs.

Supported Sir Roy Gardner (CEO) when he was appointed by the Chancellor Gordon Brown MP to chair the Apprenticeships Task Force and promote business apprenticeships. Helped Government achieve target of increasing apprenticeship places in the UK.

Responsible for British Gas media relations and public affairs in the North & Midlands, 8 staff in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham offices. Developed and implemented campaigns on customer service, energy efficiency, appliance safety, fuel poverty and rogue selling.

Responsible for (international) student marketing, media relations, internal communications and graduation ceremonies. Reported to Vice Chancellor.
