Excellence in leadership. With over 20 years serving in government, consulting, and higher education – including serving in four Governors’ Administrations in three states – Dirk enjoys empowering students, teachers, and leaders. Inspired by the leadership he's observed of his Fifth-graders for the last 9 years, and building on his passion for organizational excellence, Dirk completed his PhD. in Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands in December 2021. Throughout his career he has always gained the greatest satisfaction from leading, training, and helping others maximize their own potential. He especially enjoys learning and sharing stories from early American History, principles of America’s founding, and examples of leadership from America's greatest generation in World War 2, challenging and inspiring others to become their very best.

Dhss Budget ManagerAlaska Department Of Health And Social Services Dec 2011 - Aug 2012Juneau, AkFor one budget-cycle year, Dirk served as the Budget Director over the largest departmental budget in Alaska. The DHSS budget includes a broad spectrum of health programs, including those associated with complicated federal programs, such as Medicaid. He assisted all DHSS divisions in developing, publishing, and justifying their budgets. This required the nurturing and maintenance of numerous and varied relationships, including those in the Governor's office, division directors, legislative staff, the Department's Director, and, of course, in his own office. In addition to the demanding challenge of managing all aspects of the DHSS budget, Dirk assisted the Assistant Commissioner of Financial Services and the Commissioner of the department in an extensive project to review and adjust the departmental and divisional Missions, Core Services, and Measures. This was a critical project that has helped the department and all its programs to focus resources on providing the right services to the right beneficiaries at the right time and at the right price. This was an exciting opportunity allowing the entire department to enhance its effectiveness and efficiency.
