Led all aspects of development including Software, ASIC development, FPGA, Hardware, Mechanical and Network Management Software in a number of different geographical locations (California, Canada, India, China) spanning digital and optical products.Grew the team from ~360 engineers in 2009 to 700+ by 2015. Key player in helping the company grow the top-line from $309M in 2009 to >$800M. Reduced the revenue/engineering spend-ratio from 30% down to 20% by introducing test automation, extensive use of simulators, 24/7 equipment use between India and Sunnyvale. Transitioned the organization from a single product, single release to multiple products and multiple releases.Delivered the DTN-X product line in mid-2012, a very large R&D project completely engineered from ground up, supporting five Terabit/second of switching capacity in a single bay. This 4 year project which included a next generation of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs), special purpose coherent detection DSPs, switching and protocol ASICs, two flavors of chassis and all new hardware was delivered on-time and pretty much on budget! At Infinera, we have some of the highest Hardware and Software quality standards in the industry, consistently exceeding Telcordia TL9000 standards by 2 to 4 times!!

Defined, developed and successfully introduced into the market; the first full standards based Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON) Fiber To The User (FTTU) system, allowing Alcatel-Lucent to become worldwide market leader for this product, winning customers such as Verizon, AT&T, France Telecom, Hanaro Telecom, Telstra, Hong Kong Broadband and many more.Won contract with AT&T in 2003 and won Verizon GPON contract in 2006. Was appointed in 2006 to General Manager(PLM + R&D) of the Fiber to The User group with worldwide responsibility. - Set up GPON partnership with Freescale to deliver best-in-class and cheapest silicon.- Set up partnerships with optics vendors to develop first 2.4G/1.2G GPON optics and drive down cost.- Set up development centers in India and China to allow low cost development.- Transitioned the engineering community from data-only services over an all ATM infrastructure to quadruple play services including: RF video, data services, voice services, video services; the last three -- all over a carrier class, full redundant (5 nines) Ethernet infrastructure.- Added Voice over IP (VoIP) services to the ONT/CPE portfolio, supporting signaling protocols such as Megaco and SIP. Successfully completed interoperability with a variety of Softswitches.- Build out a full portfolio of in-house developed products for Central Office equipment and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE/ONT).- Stopped project slip and improved dramatically on quality through the introduction of CMM processes. Reached CMM Level 5 end of 2005, the first North American based telecommunication company to achieve level 5. - Re-organized the development group for full ownership and responsibility using small and empowered teams, guided by clear objectives and deliverables

Took over development activities for Alcatel’s access products in North America in 2002. Successfully transitioned the development team from developing DSL access platforms to the next generation of access products based on FTTU technology. Developed and delivered 4 generations of HW platforms in 4 years’ time, starting from a 155Mbps shared backplane bandwidth in 2003, to 622Mbps per slot in 2004, to 2Gbps per slot in 2005 to 10Gbps per slot in December 2007 with 400 Gbps switching capability.

Took over the development activities of IP routing after Alcatel USA’s major reorganization of 1999. Spearheading all development activities in Northern America for Alcatel’s Optical Terabit IP router (7770 RCP). Built out a virtual organization within Alcatel, defining lightweight processes, foster cultural change towards start-up concepts, hiring talent. Full responsibility for the development of signaling and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, RSVP. - Successfully merged the development organization with Newbridge Network, acquired in 2000.- Grown the development group from 30 to 70+.- Successfully delivered all SW components on time and on budget, resulting in a successful demonstration of our router at the Supercomm 2000 and Supercomm 2001 tradeshow and subsequent lab trials with major customers.- Successfully managed US based customer trials and tradeshows. - Participated in defining Alcatel’s GMPLS/MPS strategy and responsible for its implementation into the 7770 RCP. Successfully participated in the interoperability testing for ODSI (Dec ’00) and OIF (May ’01). Participant in the GMU Advanced Internet Laboratory initiative, IETF, CPIX/CSIX.- Certified the development group for TL9000. No major shortcoming found in a first full assessment.

Reporting to the EVP of Engineering, directed the RD&E development group of around 100 engineers for the Alcatel A1000- S12 switch for Fixed and Mobile communication. - Changed the development processes through introduction of SEI/CMM concepts, bringing the processes in line with the corporate processes. - Integrated the Taiwanese development center into the European centers, bridging the cultures by putting good communicators in liaison positions and through English improvements initiatives for the engineers. This resulted in global SW-reuse, global development, improved requirement capturing, dramatically improved project estimates, project tracking and quality.- Projects were successfully completed within the given manpower and time constrains.- Introduced ISUP-white book, ISDN, Centrex functionality, INAP and CS1 in the local network. The first Intelligent Network, SCP and Intelligent Peripheral was developed, tested and handed over to the incumbent national carrier.- Successfully brought the development group from CMM level 1 to be within reach of level 3 within 1.5-year time.

Managed a group of 25 field technicians and engineers that were responsible for the Customer Care and technical support to Alcatel’s field engineers, including ‘front-end’ technical planning & execution of special projects. - Managed the successful introduction of the Alcatel EC7 software in 300 central offices in the Belgian Belgacom network through in-depth planning, process definition, execution and post-upgrade support. - Managed various high-risk, high complex projects such as splitting an international gateway into two physical switches while remaining fully operational.- Created and managed the first Alcatel Bell Customer Care Center, introducing processes which were awarded the ISO9001 certificate. It subsequently served customers from all around the world.
