I am an educator, speaker, and community professional.The SPIE Startup Challenge - a business pitch competition for new companies using photonics - is a program I have built over the last 7 years at SPIE. It takes place yearly at Photonics West and has become a great place to make connections in the world of high tech hardware startups. As optics enables more of the technology that transports us, connects us, and helps us express our humanity, game changing companies will be built with photonics. I help students design science outreach programs, develop professional skills, and connect with the global optics & photonics community. To do this, I manage a budget of over $1 million in funding for science outreach and professional development events, and organize several Leadership workshops for students in optics.
