Asside from my activities as lector at the university of applied science Utrecht, I started a new research project into the usability of a generic datacenter metric, indicating the proportion of the total energy spend that can be attributed to ICT equipment in "idle state". This research is currently in explorative state, where we consult with governmental and industrial parties.Project OPERA, http://www.operaproject.eu , researching the applicability of heterogeneous architectures to greatly improve computational capabilities and computational energy efficiency in datacenters, has just been completed, resulting in several publications. OPERA, was a continuation of my work over the past years. My physics background and datacenter engagements, have given me a fundamental understanding of energy, power and cooling principles, issues and solutions. With this knowledge I created the OpenDCME model, an open source framework for assessing Datacenter efficiency and with that, helped many ICT organizations improving their compliance with environmental regulations and consequently improving their energy efficiency. in 2018 I expanded my field of knowledge on Dutch laws and regulations that impact ICT organizations by completing the course for “Data Protection Officer” (DPO) at the faculty of law of the university of Maastricht. The function of the DPO combines in depth knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) with extensive knowledge of ICT in order to be able to advice ICT organizations on how to comply to this new regulation.
