Perform intensive daily work within Epic, including verifying insurance eligibility/benefits through EDI transactions, payer web access, and frequent phone interactions with payers. Streamline referral and FYI documentation processes to drive accurate eligibility verification and status of authorization for patients; provide guidance to self-pay patients by referring them to benefit advocates for information on self-pay policies and estimates. Conduct thorough research and analysis of patients' office visits, conditions, and plans of care, while utilizing diagnostic imaging to support medical necessity and obtain authorizations from the payers. Identify the need for appropriate service authorizations, such as pre-certifications, third-party authorizations, and referrals; communicate effectively with physicians and case management/utilization review personnel to improve service delivery and patient outcomes. Ensure higher approval rates for specific procedures by advising physicians/clinics to implement vital templates. Follow up with physicians and clinical staff to perform peer-to-peer discussions to increase approval rates and decrease denials.

We did a research study about recovering heroin addicts and how they receive their income during active addiction and recovery. I incorporated and researched previous scientific studies relating to our hypothesis into our current study. Since heroin addicts are a tough sample to work with, I had to search for their current addresses through various sources. The most successful source I used to locate them was through Illinois inmate search. Since more than half of heroin addicts are in and out of prison, some are homeless, other living conditions it was difficult to locate them for a follow-up interview. I used SPSS to run the data analyses, however our results failed to reject the null hypothesis. There are several limitations to our study, and we list suggestions for future research. I'm grateful I was involved in this study because it was challenging, and it better prepared me for what I will be doing in my career.
