I have been a member of the board of trustees for Bath Mind since 2009. I became Vice Chair in February 2015 and Chair in June 2017 until October 2018. Currently, I sit as a member of the board and lead on the members' engagement panel. The role is voluntary and oversees the organisational strategy of Bath Mind, helping to create and comment on policy as well as any other issues that may come up. The board’s role is to support the Chief Executive in delivering their duties as well as make sure Bath Mind adheres to legislative governance. This can be a very hands-on role but is deeply rewarding.

The Equality B&NES project was set up by BathNES as a successor to the local Disability Equality Forum (DEF). It was envisioned as a way to facilitate communication between disabled residents of BathNES and the council as historically this had been difficult. The project ran for three years, all of which I was involved in. This took a difficult relationship with the council and its partners and turned it into a successful one. One of the key goals of the project was to reach out to the breadth of disabled people in BathNES and engage as many as possible in dialogue. When asked who could become a part of the membership we would cite the example of the blind, wheelchair user, person of colour, who was transgender and non-binary, with depression. To us having more than one issue wasn’t an issue. As a result I worked with adults who had a wide range of disabilities: From physical mobility issues, sensory impairments, learning difficulties, long term health conditions, mental health issues and more. Our membership was over 100 members who represented the majority of the disability spectrum. I would host a meeting of our membership roughly every 6 weeks to discuss issues people were having and create a consensus as to what issues should be worked on. Alongside members we would form working groups on these issues and work on identifying achievable solutions to the issues at hand. Some of the projects I was lead on include: • Consulting on the redevelopment of Bath Spa Train Station.• Consulting on accessibility adaptions for Holburne Museum. • Consulting on the redevelopment of Keynsham Library/One Stop Shop/Council Buildings/High Street.• Hosting HM Office for Disability on their Fulfilling Potential engagement At the end of three years the project was considered a success by all concerned, but due to Government policy at the time funding was reduced for equalities issues and continuation was not possible.
