I have over 18 years of progressively responsible experience in undertaking and managing inter-disciplinary policy research related to environment, energy and climate change issues in India. This includes various supervisory responsibilities and senior management positions. As Director of TERI’s Integrated Policy Analysis Programme, I lead a multi-disciplinary team which works across the domains of energy, environment, natural resources, climate, and agriculture to deliver evidence-based policy research. My interests include resource efficiency and circular economy, environmental policy, climate change, valuation of natural resources and ecosystems services, and resource federalism. I have worked closely with policy makers - examples include engagement with XIII Finance Commission of India in integrating environment, ecology and climate considerations in India’s fiscal-federal architecture; with Ministry of Home Affairs for conceptualising compensation mechanisms for resource-rich regions of India; with the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation for developing and piloting green income accounts; and with the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) on negotiations and review of India’s global commitments on environmental issues. I am a member of various government committees, such as the Apex Committee on State of Environment Reports, MoEFCC. I regularly serve as faculty in training programmes on environmental policy issues organised by academic institutes and government agencies, including the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.In my current position, I am responsible for developing and implementing the strategic and business plan for the Policy Analysis Programme, which includes fundraising, maintaining project pipeline, managing relationships with national and international clients, research supervision, and ensuring operational effectiveness and efficiency of a team of about 25 research professionals.
