Specialisation is over rated. There, i said it. As an engineer I learnt the technique of curve fitting - that of finding the best mathematical function to fit the data. But not all data fits the function - there are always outliers. The challenge was to select the data which determined the function and discard the others. As a marketeer I have tried to implement the same technique albeit with the deliverables. Starting with procuring all the data from the client, to deciding what is relevant, to finally implementing the smoothest output strategy - be it full of ups and downs like a sine curve or straightforward but intense like a tangent curve.But that's the technique, what about the content? Well, I've found that this is where leaving the books aside helps. I'm an avid reader, a pop culture buff and an insatiable media consumer. I can talk at lengths about the ongoing refugee crisis and then go on to give a lecture about the moral philosophies that various Game of Throne characters most likely abide to.But most importantly, I'm willing to experiment and adjust. I've worked in both digital and traditional media and found both the experiences enlightening. I've found that there is no 'the' method, but only the willingness to try everything in your arsenal while consistently expanding the said reserve. As I said - specialisation is overrated. Why be a one-trick pony.
