DON position involves admission of students to the program, monitoring of faculty in the classroom and clinical setting, curriculum adherence, student retention, and ensuring financial stability in the ADN program as well as many other responsibilities. I secure clinical sites and maintain appropriate relationships with them.

DON/ADON/Nurse educator, in the clinical, lab, and classroom settings.I started my employment with Kaplan as an adjunct instructor in the clinical and classroom setting, taking a full-time position in June 2014 and assuming the role of ADON in January 2016 transitioning into the DON role. The ADON to DON position involves admission of students to the program, monitoring of faculty in the classroom and clinical setting, curriculum adherence, student retention, and ensuring financial stability in the ADN program as well as many other responsibilities. I am responsible for managing and instructing students in the clinical and classroom setting ensuring a level of competency and above. The classroom work includes laboratory time, utilizing mannequins, high and mid fidelity simulation equipment, and practicing basic nursing skills. I schedule and secure appropriate settings for our clinical sections.

Clinical adjunct instructor with 8 students per class section. This includes managing and instructing eight students for a period of 6-8 hours per day, in the care of dependent and/or ill individuals.

Working with patients in an orthopedic specialty office including casting responsibilities. The clinic has become a bone health clinic specializing in the management and treatment of bone health. This includes performing Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry and in office training for self injectible medications. I have daily interaction with the public in person and on the phone.

Working with patients and families with terminal illnesses. Specializing in pain and symptoms management. I worked in Bremer and Butler counties with visits made in homes, nursing homes, and hospitals. This position required personal interaction in the “home” setting for the patients.

Home Health Nursing working with Medicaid, Medicare, skilled level patients, and non skilled level patients. Experience with case management through Department of Human Services and Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging. Patient population included pediatric, adolescent, and elderly patients with special needs.

Administrator of a Home Care Aide Agency working with budgets, schedules, hiring and termination of employees, in-services monthly, work with the Department of Public Health and other home health agencies, and provided nursing duties to the Bremer County Jail inmates. Adjunct instructor for suicide prevention and CPR for the Bremer County Jail employees.

Worked in Securasitter as a CNA and LPN, providing companionship, help with activities of daily living, light housekeeping, and fix nutritious meals. Worked in the dialysis unit initiating, monitoring, and discontinuing dialysis treatments; follow care plans as designed by the physicians. Worked in Covenant Clinic for seven years. My experiences include working with several physicians as a resource nurse, then with a nephrologist with duties including: Physicians monthly call schedules and daily schedules, rooming patients, triaging phone calls and walk-in patients, taking patients history, medication regimens documented, and performing procedures as needed. Patient teaching regarding diet, nutrition, medications, procedures, testing, and dialysis.
