Professor Of Instruction, EmeritaDixie taught in the KHE Undergraduate program since 1985. She developed a successful curriculum for personal trainers, providing both theoretical content and practical experiences in that Specialization. She is a spokesperson for ACE, and serves on the Editorial Board for the ACSM Health & Fitness Journal and GSSI Speakers Bureau. She has been a fitness editor for Shape magazine and a 5-star presenter for IDEA, presenting extensively at both national and international conferences. Her research generally involves current fitness topics, but has been expanded to include strategic health communication, including her work with the award winning Gatorade Replay on Fox Sports. Dixie received the inaugural Departmental Teaching Excellence Award in 2011, was selected as a Provost's Teaching Fellow in 2015, and named as a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine in 2017. At UT it was teach, teach, teach...which she loves. Everything from Physiological Basis of Conditioning, Techniques of Fitness Leadership, Strategic Health Communication, Personal Training Fieldwork, and supervising interns in Medical Fitness & Rehabilitation, Health Fitness, and Community Health and Wellness. Her retirement became official on 8/31/22 and one of her highest professional honors is being named to emerita status at UT Austin.
