I’m just a small town kid from South Dakota who has been very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time often. After four years of college and a BS in Chemistry and Biology, I decided I needed more education, so I moved to Omaha to attend the University of Nebraska Medical Center, focusing my research in Molecular Biology and Human Genetics. I’ve always had a passion for science, business and people, and when I finished graduate school, I was fortunate to be able to find a place where I could combine those passions for a living - in the field of Technology Transfer (Technology Development and Commercialization). Working under the mentorship of a successful patent attorney and a physician entrepreneur has taught me as much or more than I learned in 9 years of post-secondary education. Helping to connect the knowledge of academia with the power of industry has allowed me to see and work with the medical devices, therapeutics and vaccines that will change healthcare over the next two decades. It has also allowed me to play in a sandbox that is bigger and deeper than I ever imagined. While it isn’t the career I dreamed of when I was 10 years old, it is better than anything I could have ever imagined. I look forward to coming to work each day as it’s quite possible the device or therapeutic that comes across my desk may be the one that saves my life (or someone I love) in the future!
