Senior Design Engineer
CurrentI currently work at the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant. This plant generates about 600 MW of economical carbon-free power to the midwest electric grid. It uses a GE boiling water reactor & process that was designed by Bechtel in 1970. My role is a design engineer in the electrical group. The general role is primarily to develop electrical projects but also includes technical support to other engineering departments. The focus of my department (Design) is primarily smaller capital expenditures (<$1M) and operational modifications. My role within the Design Team has been focused on supporting modifications through the Phased Approval Process and this has included single point responsibility (Responsible Engineer) for several capital & O&M projects ranging from $100,000 to $5,000,000 in cost.Projects have included large power feeder cable replacements (including primary and secondary service laterals), Cyber Security Upgrade Project, Hydrogen Water Chemistry control project, Turbine Control wire replacement, Feedwater Heater Level Transmitters, UPS Replacement. I've been involved with EPU, Cyber Security, Software Quality Assurance, NRC Inspections, Internal Audit of Design Control, and various Digital Upgrades.
