About Djarra Delaney
I am proud Quandamooka person and scientist, focused on how Indigenous communities might better respond to climate change. As a PhD Candidate at the University of Melbourne, my research is investigating climate adaptation practices in Australian Indigenous island communities. Enabling self-determination in climate adaptation is crucial for effective management of climate and environmental change. Community-driven solutions should be supported as an alternative to top-down governance. My area of professional expertise is in community engagement and participation with First Nations Peoples for Traditional Knowledge projects, including the Indigenous Weather Knowledge website, through the Bureau of Meteorology.
