Projects ongoing and undertaken to date include structural integrity management of over a 5th of GOM platforms, assessment of platforms to API RP2A and 2INT-EX, decommissioning, FEA of subsea tooling components, assurance on offshore lifts, establishment of technical limits and feasibility study on a proposed rig addition to a large `deep' water fixed platform.Consultant 2007 - 2009Darren Morahan provided consultancy services to BP decommissioning group as their chosen Structural Technical Authority on the decommissioning of shelf assets. Notable projects include the high profile reef in place and toppling of EI322 P & D. Responsibilities included assurance over contractors, assessment of platforms, toppling analyses, design of pull frames, MMS submissions, reef applications and assurance offshore.

GOM Platform Structural Integrity Management - Project Manager responsible for the assessment of numerous platforms in the Gulf of Mexico to API RP2A 21st Ed. Section 17 using site specific criteria for BP, Devon, Anglo Suisse, Apache & ExxonMobil as part of the integrity management process. Also Project Manager for many post hurricane assessments for inspection planning optimization and partial collapse/fully collapsed investigatory analyses.BP Decommissioning - BP's selected consultant to the decommissioning group covering all structural aspects of platform decommissioning. Key role in the determination of structural integrity for several platforms damaged by hurricanes. Activities included inspection, assessment of damage tolerance and in some cases strengthening. Prepared artificial reef and structural permits for submission to MMS and LARP.Devon Deck Raising - Project Manager and Devon's structural assurance for the raising of topsides on two 8 leg platforms located in approximately 250 ft water depth.GOM Platform Strengthening/Repairs - Project Manager responsible for the assessment, conceptualizing repairs and the design of repairs on numerous platforms in the GOM for BP, Devon, Anglo Suisse, Apache & ExxonMobil.BP EPTG - Key role in the development and preparation of Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs) covering the BP Structural Integrity Management process.BP Eugene Island 322 A - Project Manager for the assessment and decommissioning engineering for the drilling and tender platforms. The drilling platform was damaged during Hurricane Lili. Decommissioning involved the use of diamond wire cut tools deployed using ROVs. The platforms were toppled using an anchor handling vessel which provided the pull-over load representing the first successful topple of a platform in the GOM.BP Clair Project - Responsible as part of the BP EPTG team for the structural assurance of the Drilling Support Module and Drilling Equipment Set module.

BG/BP JUNO Field Development - Project Manager responsible for undertaking concept studies & FEED study for field development.Statoil Kvitebjorn Structure - Project Manager responsible for verification studies covering structure and major piping systems.Shell Skiff, Brigantine BG & BR - Project Manager responsible for the detailed design of topsides, substructures and foundation systems. Shell Skiff project won the British Government Construction Industry Civil Engineering Award for 2000 in recognition of the novel design and installation method which challenged traditional practices. Responsibilities included fabrication/installation engineering and interface, weight control, drawings and liaison with HSE/Lloyds.Statoil SIRI Jackup – Project Engineer responsible for the conduct of spectral fatigue analyses on substructure and piping third party verification studies.Phillips Judy Jacket – Project Manager responsible for structural integrity studies on a continuous long-term contract. Studies have included static, fatigue, pushover studies, calibration against monitoring data and development of inspection plan.AOP (Statoil) Europipe Development - Project Manager for structural and piping third party verification studies including jacket, topsides and bridge structures.Statoil West Epsilon Jackup – Involved in non-linear, dynamic analysis of the West Epsilon Jackup rig which included calibration with monitored data provided by instruments located on the structure.Shell JFP11 - Senior Engineer responsible for the conduct of spectral fatigue analysis and static strength analysis of the jackup.Chevron - Cast Pad Eyes - Project Engineer responsible for analyses of lift components for validation of novel concept.JIP - Grouted Tubular Joints Technology - Project Manager responsible for large scale testing of ‘T’ and ‘DT’ joints. SCF data was gathered for the as-welded and grouted conditions, as well as ultimate strength tests.

Unocal Thailand - Platong Field Senior Engineer with considerable involvement in the computer analysis of existing wellhead structures to assess the structural integrity of the wellhead platforms which were damaged as a result of Typhoon Gay passing through the field and subsequently the design of repair clamps.Phillips Norway - Ekofisk 2/4R Involved in the computer analysis for the re-assessment of the jacket in the in-service condition.British Gas South Morecambe CPP1 - Responsible for the updating and analysis of structural models and design audit of Modules M5 and M6/7 for lift, loadout, transportation and operational conditions. Code checking was carried out to API RP2A and BS 5950. Also involved in detailed design of strengthening to enable the central production platform to accept 5000 tonnes additional topsides load at one end of the platform due to the addition of M5 and M6/7 modules.Amoco Leman 49/27 AP - Involved in the computer analysis to carry out a three-dimensional pushover analysis to determine ultimate strength behaviour of platform under extreme storm loading.Amoco CATS Project - Senior Engineer responsible for the measurement on site of locked-in-stresses during fabrication of Lomond Jacket caused by weld shrinkage. Also carried out a study to compare the measured stresses against those obtained in a frame analysis.Shell Sole Pit Repair - Involved in the detailed design of repairs to existing subsea intervention valve damaged by extreme storm loading.Mobil USA High Island Sub-Sea Repairs - Considerable involvement in the conceptual and detailed design of repairs to conductor framing necessitated by accidental damage. Repairs consisted of mechanical, stressed grouted and unstressed grouted clamps and member grout filling.

Responsible for structural design of industrial and office buildings and conversion of buildings into offices and banks. The projects involved liaising with local authorities and contractors and design undertaken using CAD, RC detailing and structural analysis programs.

Resident Engineer of conversion of country mansion to one hundred bedroom hotel and conference facility, in accordance with English Heritage requirements for listed buildings.
