As leaders, educators and learners, we should expect nothing less of our schools and ourselves as we face the multifaceted challenges of a quickly shifting educational, social, cultural and economic landscape. While sometimes daunting, courage when continuously explored, harnessed and demonstrated has reciprocating values. The courage of the leader inspires that of the classroom teacher. The courage of a student inspires that of the leader. Through interactive protocols, fostering thought-provoking discussion, this workshop harnesses the collective expertise, wisdom and aspirations of the room; it is an invitation to explore innovative strategies, challenge conventional thinking, and even embrace the unconventional. I lead a team of 15 teachers who taught English, French and Spanish. I oversaw budgets and worked with individual teachers to set goals in order to improve student learning in their classes. I helped facilitate the introduction of Harkness as a learning methodology and presented at the CIS Connects Conference about how Harkness aligns with the Future of Education. As the Program Area Leader (PAL) I organized and facilitated meetings in order to align our team goals with the schools overall Strategic Vision. In Modern Languages we used a speaking-first approach under an umbrella of authentic learning. We followed the CEFR and utilized an action-oriented approach to foreign language learning. As a teacher, I used a Personalized Learning approach to allow for student agency and choice in their learning and set students into authentic situations in order to grow, practice and refine their communication skills. In this role, I worked as an Instructional Coach for some teachers who directly reported to me and I worked as a collaborator with others in the PAL team in order to create, organize and refine school initiatives and directions within the lens of improved student learning in Grades 9-12 throughout all subject areas. Beyond my PAL role at LCS, I coached both the Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball teams and supported a student-led language club in which students from 5 different countries (Germany, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Korea and Japan) taught their native language to their peers. I worked with the instructors on effective teaching and learning strategies in order to offer engaging and relevant material for their lessons.

I support teachers in their professional growth and use of Edtech in the classroom in order to optimize student learning. We used an action research approach and iterative process in an attempt to transform the ways students learn and shift the education paradigm.

Working with teachers around progressive pedagogy and edtech that will deepen student learning, pique curiosity, and help them along the path of lifelong learning.
