I lead a team of 15 teachers who taught English, French and Spanish. I oversaw budgets and worked with individual teachers to set goals in order to improve student learning in their classes. I helped facilitate the introduction of Harkness as a learning methodology and presented at the CIS Connects Conference about how Harkness aligns with the Future of Education. As the Program Area Leader (PAL) I organized and facilitated meetings in order to align our team goals with the schools overall Strategic Vision. In Modern Languages we used a speaking-first approach under an umbrella of authentic learning. We followed the CEFR and utilized an action-oriented approach to foreign language learning. As a teacher, I used a Personalized Learning approach to allow for student agency and choice in their learning and set students into authentic situations in order to grow, practice and refine their communication skills. In this role, I worked as an Instructional Coach for some teachers who directly reported to me and I worked as a collaborator with others in the PAL team in order to create, organize and refine school initiatives and directions within the lens of improved student learning in Grades 9-12 throughout all subject areas. Beyond my PAL role at LCS, I coached both the Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball teams and supported a student-led language club in which students from 5 different countries (Germany, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Korea and Japan) taught their native language to their peers. I worked with the instructors on effective teaching and learning strategies in order to offer engaging and relevant material for their lessons.
