As the lead control engineer in the Perth department, I am hired to provide SME advice on building optimisation whilst undertaking project engineering on complex projects.

At the start of my role, I managed all major projects for the organization as the business grew. One of my notable achievements was the successful completion of a heavily integrated extra low voltage system. This led to us being asked to dismantle and improve previously installed Building Management Service (BMS) by other contractors. After completing this task, the client trusted us with their buildings to upgrade/modify the programs as we saw fit. This resulted in over 40% energy savings.As the company continued to grow, I focused on improving the standard of technical documentation, programming, and user interface. This ensured that anyone within the company could quickly remedy a situation if problems arose without needing years of experience. To minimize overheads while expanding our task force, I sourced contractors and ensured that they performed under our strict standards. This was achieved by providing constant feedback and peer reviewing their work until it met our satisfaction. This gave confidence to management to win more complex projects.I have always been thorough with systems to ensure that they meet the highest standards, where budget permitted. I often provided suggestions to consultants/clients if a better solution could be implemented in lieu of their design and let them make the final decision. As one of the most versatile engineers in the organization, I did not limit my operating role to my job title. Instead, I did what was required to ensure that everyone was able to complete their tasks effectively.

with this organization, I had the opportunity to work with clients such as Curtin University, QE2 Hospital, and CSIRO. My role encompassed various tasks, with my primary responsibility being to interface a myriad of extra low voltage systems over complex network infrastructures into a single user interface using the Niagara Framework. This role required me to push the software application and network engineers to their limits to ensure that data could pass through the system correctly. We often used creative solutions to enable the systems to communicate with each other effectively.When opportunities arose, I would undertake audit reviews of existing and new Building Management Systems for clients who wanted a better understanding of why their buildings were not functioning optimally. This role required me to utilize my analytical skills to identify why systems behaved in a particular way. Furthermore, I conducted monthly reviews of utilities for the entire QE2 and the Square Kilometre Array at the CSIRO. Reports were written to explain power and water consumption within the facilities, and we often tried to identify the reasons behind certain abnormalities. This was followed up with suggestions if attention had to be given to particular systems that were operating outside their design conditions.

I started my journey with this organization as a controls technician and was promoted to the position of project engineer within just 11 months. From performing maintenance tasks, I moved on to running my own projects for the company. Upon the completion of my final project, I was offered a position at a consulting firm by their consultants.
