CurrentAt the Amahoro Coalition we show local and global businesses how they can benefit by tapping into the immense ingenuity, survival instincts, and human capital locked away in refugee communities on the African continent. We focus on enhancing education and livelihoods of displaced people by giving them opportunities to start businesses and providing them with mentorship. As someone who left Africa during a war in Sierra Leone and found success in the US through eduction, hard work, and enabled by people who took a chance on me, this work is very meaningful to me.
Fellow
CurrentThe Council on African Security and Development (CASADE) is a non-profit research-driven collective of experts and academics dedicated to the holistic advancement of Africa. I am a contributor to research and policy discussions.
Partner And Managing Director
At NE Digital I helped my friend, partner and B-school colleague build a private equity practice focused on delivering Cloud Computing to the middle market. We educated clients on the cloud, sold and delivered many Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) projects.
Director
I helped the firm build a practice focused on M&A and performance improvement for Private Equity clients. I pitched clients, sold work, led teams and held a number of interim management roles including CIO and COO assignments. I also lived out of a suitcase, perfected being able to work anywhere, became a million mile flyer and earned platinum status for life at every major hotel chain.Loughlin Management was acquired by BDO in 2019.
Senior Manager
At EY I was a Senior Manager in the Operational Transactions Services (OTS) practice and led teams on M&A, Carve-outs and Divestitures assignments. I advised corporate and private equity clients and found myself in many boardrooms in Detroit, Chicago, Miami and New York. For the first time in my consulting career I encountered the luxury of a "local" project (one where I did not have to board an airplane) as we helped a major North American tier 1 automotive parts supplier divest two of its divisions to an Asian acquirer. At EY I met some great mentors and colleagues that I have maintained relationships with till present day.
Manager
I was a Manager in the Transaction Services Advisory Practice. I led teams with a focus on mergers and acquisitions (M&A), separation of parts of companies (Carve-outs), Pre-Deal Due Diligence, Post Deal Value Capture and Integration. In M&A projects my teams' objectives were to arrive at an integrated state of what was previously separate companies. We delivered significant savings from an operational cost structure while preserving strategic and technical capabilities. These structural changes served as a foundation for growth. In Carve-Out projects my teams would build-out a roadmap and then execute the taking apart of companies and standing up new companies with fully independent and functional departments across Operations, IT, Finance, HR, etc. where previously there was just a division of a bigger business. In this capacity I got to massage a lot of egos, helped people collaborate in ways that was previously not conceivable, delivered millions of dollars worth of value to my clients, and worked on/traveled to international clients in North America, Asia and the Middle East.
Associate
PRTM was a boutique operations strategy management consulting firm. I was part a small elite team focused on pre-acquisition operational due diligence for corporate and private equity clients. The job was very fast-paced, required tremendous attention to detail, the digestion and synthesis of massive amounts of data, and its presentation for a high-stakes audience in a concise format. At PRTM I learned how to help management make decisions where the outcomes were complicated. I was fortunate to work for partners with tremendous depth, business savvy and technical skills. My teammates were equally impressive not only in their industry expertise but also in their emotional intelligence. The environment allowed me to learn a lot and grow professionally in a short period of time. Along the way I wrote more Powerpoint slides than I care to remember and became incredibly good at spotting inconsistencies in fonts, table padding and the more importantly, the logical flow of presentations. I also became intimately familiar with both United and American Airlines terminals at O'Hare International Airport. PRTM got acquired by PwC in 2011.
