This year-long independent undergraduate research project focused on the effect of globalization, specifically through the Green Revolution, the involvement of the World Trade Organization, and the consolidation of power in multinational corporations on the sustainability of Indian agriculture. Through the industrialization and trade liberalization fostered by intentional international interventions, the foundation of Indian agriculture shifted from traditional practices towards modernized technology that featured a decreasing self-reliance and increasing dependence on international markets. From an environmental perspective, the technologies of the Green Revolution have accelerated the spread of monocultures, intensive soil degradation, and the overexertion of groundwater supplies. From an economic perspective, small- scale farmers are being forced to compete in a global marketplace while dealing with rising costs of production and decreasing yields. It is clear that the current system in Indian agriculture is unsustainable. Understanding the role of globalization in Indian agriculture, which forms the crux of this thesis, will hopefully provide insights for the development of a more sustainable agrarian development strategy.

Researched federal and state policies concerning tidal energy projects, summarized a series of documents and public comments submitted by various agents (state agencies, private citizens, Native American tribes) in response to a proposed tidal energy project in Pembroke, Maine.

As part of the Summer Scholars program in the Center for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (CAFE), I researched the fate of copper oxide nanoparticles in soil-water-plant systems, assisted and performed numerous nanoparticle research protocols ranging from UV-vis spectroscopy and electron microscopy to ICP-MS. In September of 2018, I presented our findings in a poster session hosted by CAFE.

Holyoke, Massachusetts

As part of my Urban Policy course, I independently completed an analysis of Longmeadow, Massachusetts and its impediments to fair housing for a term project on behalf of the Massachusetts Fair Housing Center. This analysis required intense research and data management from the town's websites, bylaw database, dimensional regulations, and census data. I used data systems such as PolicyMap to analyze the spatial distribution of several factors within the community. Additionally, I formulated a proposed schedule of uses for the Town, as it previously did not have any available documentation in that regard. I presented my findings, along with suggestions of solutions for the town's most significant issues regarding fair housing, to members of the Massachusetts Fair Housing Center in December of 2018.

I worked in the Mass DEP offices as an intern with the Drinking Water Program. My responsibilities included filing and organizing records, editing documents, and compiling a best management guide for staffing regulations at public water systems across the state.
