The Sustainability Commission’s mission is to:"Assist the City of Dunwoody to set an example by conserving energy, investing in renewable energy, conserving water, conserving fuel, reducing waste and protecting and restoring the community’s natural resources. Promote measures that encourage Dunwoody to work towards reducing the environmental footprint of the government through its policies, practices, buildings and fleets. Promote measures that encourage our community to reduce its environmental impact by providing assistance in public education and outreach on sustainability."Appointed by the City of Dunwoody City Council and Mayor in order to represent the Dunwoody Nature Center and the city's youth. Founder and Co-Chair of the Student Committee; and actively involved as a member of the Recycling Committee, assisting in the development and establishment of recycling programs at the eight schools within the city. As a commission, together achieved ARC Green Communities Silver Certification. Working with fellow Commission member Bobbi Sedam, created the 'Recycling is Smart Business' program and partnership between the Sustainability Commission and Dunwoody Chamber of Commerce (http://www.dunwoodycommerce.org/content/recycling-smart-business).Worked with the Dunwoody Nature Center and several local and state organizations to pilot a program of K-12 sustainable education within the cluster of schools in the City of Dunwoody. Focused on service learning at Dunwoody High School in partnership with Georgia Perimeter College, and sustainability to better satisfy Georgia Performance Standards; also worked to provide community resources to cut waste and inefficiencies within each school.
