One major focus of Emmaus is sickle cell disease (SCD). SCD is a devastating genetic disease that afflicts about 100,000 people in the U.S. and millions more around the globe. In December, 2014, the company completed its Phase III clinical trial for a treatment for sickle cell disease (SCD) using L-glutamine, and a New Drug Application (NDA) for the treatment was accepted for review in November 2016. A decision is expected in July 2017.
