I'm a software engineering lead with 25 years experience, looking to apply my data engineering experience in a new industry.Over ten years ago, I signed on with a startup running an underperforming Ruby on Rails application. It would take us six days to load five days' worth of data, and we regularly had an incident every week. After addressing our stability issues, we set our sights on scalability. I architected a new event-driven data processing pipeline in Scala, backed by AWS Kinesis Data Streams, Apache Spark Streaming, and AWS DynamoDB. We were immediately able to reduce our EC2 instances by 80% and our DynamoDB spend has been flat year-over-year ever since. This same architecture now sustains 2,500 write operations per second, storing over half a billion new records every month.
