Worked with Pickathon folks and others in the Portland music scene on a new streaming platform for live music. As the initial engineering hire on the team, I built a little bit of everything. Content management tools with Sanity.io, GraphQL APIs and a custom E-commerce integration with Node.js/Prisma and PostgreSQL, a WebRTC-powered front-end experience with Nuxt/Vue.js, and media server clusters with AWS CloudFormation.

David Knape is the Principal Programmer and Consultant at Bumpslide, a software studio in Portland, Oregon specializing in mobile, web, and interactive application development.With a focus on immersive user experience and open-source technology, Bumpslide partners with teams around the world to provide technical leadership and creative code.

Developed online interactive experiences and museum installations with while striving to push the state-of-the-art in Flash and ActionScript development. Extensive work with online maps, interactive timelines, and searchable collection databases including the original AIGA Design Archives, Monticello Explorer, and various exhibits and companion sites for the Smithsonian, the National Archives, and National Geographic.Designed coding frameworks, built custom UI components, and developed web tools for managing content, collections, and media using PHP and MySQL.

After college, while waiting for my wife to graduate, I took a job with a software/consulting firm in Peoria, Illinois. I worked there for a year and a half before moving to Portland in 2001 where I continued to work for them remotely for another two and a half years.Our main client was a Fortune 500 Heavy Machinery Firm (#ffcc00). I was originally hired to develop interactive training modules using Macromedia Director and Lingo. I started by building a framework that allowed content creators to organize the training into XML documents that could be used to automatically build the menus and navigation for the tutorials and other content. I moved on to develop web applications. I created an MVC app framework in PHP that was used to build custom content management tools, intranet apps, and "portals". I did extensive research into asynchronous Javascript-to-server communication using hidden IFrames, dynamically attached scripts, and eventually, XML (now "AJAX"). As Director shockwave gave way to Flash SWFs on the web, I began building front-end components for my web apps with ActionScript where I could maintain state in the client and use APIs to load data. We also built a few desktop apps using the Flash plugin (OCX) embedded in projector-like EXE shells. My interactive mapping experiments using the Flash drawing APIs are what got me the job at Second Story.
