Dan Kohnen is an executive and entrepreneur with 26 years of experience in the design, manufacture, and sale of commercial lighting, controls and architectural products. Dan is a creative, strategic, executive with proven success leading organizations from startup to profitability and international growth. As a curious, collaborative, analytical, executive, he is passionate about leading organizations to innovate through customer-centric design. In 2008 Dan cofounded Structura, a designer and manufacturer of urban, architectural, outdoor lighting and site amenities. Under his leadership Structura grew through product innovation, strategic partnerships with Cooper Lighting and French manufacturer, Aubrilam, and a sales network of over 60 agents across North America, Europe and the Middle East. Structura products are found on urban developments at New York’s Brooklyn Bridge Park, Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Toronto’s waterfront, campuses for Apple, Google, and many professional and collegiate sports venues. He is now the Director of Architectural Systems for Focal Point Lighting, a division of Legrand, and a manufacturer of architectural lighting and integrated ceiling systems.He's the recipient of the IES Special Citation - Edwin Guth Lighting Design Award and the International GE Edison Design Award for lighting design, an ASLA Award of Merit, Lightfair Product Innovation, Best Booth awards and awards for innovation in business. Dan's products have been honored with six PIA and two IES Progress Report Awards for product design. He holds an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, graduating with honors, and has a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Kansas where he was a Besal Scholar.
