Worked as an RPN in the community by providing nursing care to individuals in their private homes, long term care facilities, and hotels if they were from out of town. My duties were to provide care according to their individualized care plan such as vital signs, diabetic testing, medication administration such as oral, rectal, intramuscular, and subcutaneous. Also providing ostomy care, catheter care, changing dressings while providing sterile technique, removing sutures and staples from wounds, tube feedings, charting and documentation, and communicating with LHINS.

Worked as lab assistant. Duties were taking blood from individuals at the lifelabs clinic and placing the blood in the accurate containers. At times, I went to client's homes that were unable to come to the clinic. I had also had gone to the Correctional Facility to collect specimens from individuals who were incarcerated.

Fort William Reserve

Worked as an RPN on the Fort William Reserve while caring for 3 young children with special needs. The children's ages were 4, 8, and 10yrs of age. They were fragile children in which they had a history of having seizures. As a nurse, my responsibility was to administer their medications on a regular schedule, provide personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, feeding all meals to them, taking them for walks and spending time taking them to leisure outings. I enjoyed working with them all as they were special children who required special needs and it takes a special person to administer this to them.Unfortunately, all 3 children were transferred to a facility for special needs children to Southern Ontario.

I worked as a RPN and cared for the elderly who had alzheimer's, parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, huntington's, and mental health issues. My duties were to provide total personal hygiene, feeding all meals, turning, transferring and positioning, applications of prescribed creams, tube feedings as some who could not eat normal food, application of simple dressings, and vital signs. I enjoyed working with the elderly population as I find they are very special people. I believe that there will be many jobs in working with them as many of them are living at home or in a long term care facility.
