Someone once said, "It's okay to think about what you want to do until it's time to start doing what you were meant to do." Every time you tell someone your age that's older than you, they always take it personally as if you were only mentioning it to offend them. Then there's the typical response, "You're so young." I've always thought that was so annoying. Then, out of nowhere, I just started thinking about it more and more, and this past year, I caught myself actually saying it to someone younger. I felt like I was the muse for a new Progressive Insurance commercial. (can we get a round of Jalapeño poppers?) I figure I'm either a hypocrite, or I must be over 40. It turns out I'm both. It's cool, though. You can still trust me because nine years ago, I had a moment of clarity and quit drinking. Wait, what? Yeah, I told everyone I quit for myself rather than just pin the reason for saving my marriage. No, I quit because I love my family, and I believe I'm destined for something greater. Do you know how big of a cliché it is to say you quit drinking to save your marriage? Under that heading, the success percentage is hovering right around 0%, and I desperately needed my wife to believe me this time.The point is, I used to say I did everything for my family, but really, I was just a hypocrite doing everything for numero uno. Now, I'm on the eve of 42, and I've never been more confident that every decision I make must be in the best interest of my family. I think it's safe to say I've officially become that annoying guy commenting on how young you are. I've paid attention these past six years, though, and learned a few things: ✅I've learned that everyone struggles with something. ✅I've learned that everyone is unique.✅That people want to be inspired as much as they want to be heard & understood. ✅That we're not in control and, most importantly...✅That wealth is measured by only one thing...TIME. I believe in raw truth, vulnerability, authenticity, and, most importantly, I believe God has a sense of humor. After all, I keep telling him my plans, and he keeps smiling back at me, changing them. If you're reading this and feel comfortable with it, maybe something is worth a conversation. Who knows, together, we might solve the world's problems. Or maybe we can just talk about one of the many things we're both passionate about. Either way, just know this: I have no intention of wasting our time.
